ECEAP held opening seminars in Armenia in the framework of the project „Local Ownership of Democracy: Transparent Governance on Local Level“ at the beginning of June. The aim of the project is to encourage local governments to initiate changes to strengthen democracy. During the seminars, the experts from Estonia shared their experiences and best practices on the implementation of reforms and changes in Estonia.

The participants heard the former Chairman of the Municipality Council, Mr. Arnold Pastak, talk about the Estonian experience in the development of local governments in rural areas. Mr. Jaan Kelder, entrepreneur from Estonia, talked about the development of Estonian economy from 1992 to 2021. Tarmo Loodus. former Mayor of Viljandi, pointed out why is strategic planning important and how can the creation of a development plan be useful to the municipality.

Mayor Sasun Khexhumyan said the opening words and signed the Cooperation and Partnership Agreement between Estonian Center of Eastern Partnership and Alaverdi. Estonian experts filled the seminar day with presentations on Estonian reform experiences over the last thirty years. Mayor of Haapsalu, Urmas Sukles, spoke about the ways the local government can improve local entrepreneurship and the creation of jobs.
