Local Ownership project kicks off in Mtskheta, Georgia

ECEAP held the first opening seminar in the framework of the ‘Local Ownership of Democracy: Transparent Governance on Local Level’ project in Mtskheta, Georgia on September 22, 2020. With the support of Estonian experts and through sharing experiences and best practices from Estonian cities and municipalities, this project aims to encourage the local governments in Georgia as well as Armenia and Ukraine to initiate changes to enhance cooperation between the local authorities and local civil society thereby taking ownership of democratisation.

The participants were welcomed by Mr. Georgi Kapanadze, Mayor of Mtskheta, Ms. Helene Sand Andresen, Ambassador of Norway to Georgia and Mr. Gert Antsu, Director of ECEAP. The cooperation between ECEAP and Mtskheta in the framework of this project was formalised by the signing of the Cooperation and Partnership Agreement. Cooperation between the local authorities and civil society towards shared goals to improve life in local communities are the key to becoming stronger leaders and a stronger community.

This project is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
